So much
has happened this week I dont even know were to begin...well first off I am not
in a trio anymore. Hna. Jarman got a call from Pre Miller on Weds. night saying
her companion, that was having headache problems, was coming in on Friday and
she was going to be transferred to a new zone, and pink washing all at the same
time. She needed to me moved out and into her new apartment one Thursday so she
could be ready for her new comp. Hna Gomez and I thought we would be the ones
moving because it was the original plan. So it looks like I will be staying in
El Paso for the next little while. It’s slowly growing on me.
We have
been asked to do a directory scrub. It is where we take the ward directory and
go to every single person on it to see if their info in correct. We were
working on the scrub earlier this week and we went to an apartment where it said
there were 2 teenagers that were inactive. When we knocked on the door no one
answered. Then on Friday we had a dinner appointment with someone we did now
know very well. We had to look up her address in the directory and it happened
to be the same address where we were looking for the less active teenagers. We
were like "sweet we can get to know them better and activate them".
When we pulled up to the apartment door was already open and there was a young
guy standing outside. We waved and said hello. He was really friendly and said
hello back. When we walked up to the door and looked in. He told us to go in. Then
an older woman came in and Hna Gomez, being the super friendly person she is,
walked right up to her and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek, because she
thought it was a friend to the Hermana we were suppose to be eating with. They
were being so kind. There was another young girl on the couch. Apologizing for
the mess saying they just got home but to have a seat and to make ourselves
comfortable. They started offering us water, popcorn. Then the older woman
asked if we have been there before.....Hna Gomez and I looked at each other and
then back at to lady and asked if the Hna we were having dinner with was there.
She said she didn’t know any one by that name! hahaha Right at that moment we
got a call for our dinner appointment asking if we were lost. We told her where
we were are she said she moved out of that apartment over 2yrs ago! hahahah All
of us were laughing at the situation. And that is how we met the Perez family:)
After we understood who they were and they understood who we were, we started
talking to them. Just walking in to a stranger’s home really breaks the ice
fast! Amazingly enough the older woman who's name is Alma has heard the
discussions before in Mexico and her son-in-law Carlos (the one we said hi to
outside) worked with a member that served in Korea. It was amazing to see how
prepared this family is for the Gospel! They asked us to come back because they
want to have God more in their lives. As soon as we left Hna Gomez and I knew
it was not accidental that we met them. We have quickly fallen in love with
this family.
We went back to see them Saturday night and we brought with us the
member that used to live there. It was fun to hear their stories about the apartment.
Earlier that day Carlos was doing laundry and found a Book of Mormon in the
laundry room. He wanted to take it but then didn’t want to take someone’s book.
He decided to wait until the end of the night to see if it was still there and
it was :) He prefers to read in Spanish so we got him and everyone in the
family their own book. When we talked to them that night Alma said she had been
praying that day for something to help her. The next thing she knows we came
walking through her door. She also described the hug from Hna Gomez as a hug
from Christ because it felt so sincere. I found this interesting and touching,
because we are literally representing Christ as missionaries. That night they
also made us dinner. We have plans to go back over for dinner this Friday.
Every time we go see them now they want us to come back as soon as possible and
to drop in whenever we are in the area. They are so prepared. It is hard to
believe. I have only heard stories about people like them. I didn’t know they
actually existed! I know they are going to be baptized, I don’t know when. Hopefully
soon!
