New Place, New People to Love

This was a long week. We dropped most of our investigators because none of them were progressing and we didn’t want to waste their time and our time when they were really not ready or interested in the Gospel. So this week we have been doing a lot of finding. It is really different from Rio Rancho because there we never had to do finding because the members did all of it for us, by giving us referrals. It was awesome! Now we are going back to formers and asking if they wanted to retake the lessons. We found Francisco, he was referred by his granddaughter a while ago. When the missionaries first taught him he was about to leave to Mexico for several months, so they stopped teaching him. Francisco is about 80yrs old and has a live-in care taker named Javier. The first time we met with Francisco we asked Javier to join us be he politely declined. The next time we went over we had a member with us. We invited Javier to join us again and he declined again. We started teaching Francisco the first lesson. Not too long after we started Javier came in and joined us. The farther we got into the lesson the more he scooted his chair closer. By the end of the lesson he was sharing his testimony about prayer and telling us his life story. The spirit in the room was so strong. We invited both Francisco and Javier to church. Javier said he will definitely be there. We then extended the soft baptism. When we did Javier sat there, thought about it, then said yes! It was the most sincerely yes I have ever heard to a soft commit. We are going to be setting a more solid date with them this week.We were all really excited to see them at church. We waited and waited but they didn’t come. We stopped by their house to see what happened. Javier's daughter answered the door and said that neither of them were home. They were at Francisco's granddaughters house. She said she thought they both went to church with the granddaughter. We are hopeful that they went with her. We will have to get them to come to our ward though.

Also this week we met one of Hna Gomez's converts. Apparently she moved around several time and no one knew where she had moved to. Well the elders found her! Her name is Jackie and she has a little 9yr boy named Bruce. We went along with the elders to visit them. The day before Hna Gomez and I made a ginger bread house from the kit I got from Andi. Hna Gomez had never made a ginger bread house before. Lets just say we had fun making it and it looked like the bomb when we were done! We were very proud of ourselves :) --( I will send pictures later)-- We knew we were not going to eat it so we decided to give it to Bruce. When I first met Bruce I fell in love with the little guy. You can tell he makes the best form what he has. You can also tell life has already been hard for him but he keeps his chin up and keeps a positive attitude and wants to be a good helper to his mom. When we gave him the Ginger bread house his whole face lit up! It was priceless! It was just a little thing and yet it meant so much to him. We are going to put a little package together for 3 Kings Day( Hispanics don’t really celebrate Christmas they celebrate when the wise men came and they celebrate it on January 6th)
