It has been another week full of adventures
and God putting us where he want us to be. On Wednesday it started to down pour
and I mean like cats and dogs. Now, here in New Mexico they are not
really prepared when it comes to a lot of rain. When it started to down pour we
were trying to contact an investigator whom we had made an appointment with.
They weren't there. We started driving around in a neighborhood that connects
to main streets. As we were driving the streets were becoming flooded. At stop
signs it was kinda scary to drive across because the water was becoming so high.
I was the one driving. I didn't what to drive through the streets that
were super full. But Allen assured me that it would be ok. After the 3rd one we
passed through we pull up to an intersection what was completely full of water. The street drain could not keep up with how
fast the rain was coming down. It honestly looked like a rushing river. We saw
that there was a car that had gotten stuck in the middle of the street that had
turned into a river. As we are pulling to turn around because the water is
still rising, Allen notices that the man that got his car stuck had kids in the
car and the car was being flooded. We decided we couldn't just watch and we
needed to help him. As soon as we could we parked the car and went into the
water to help him. The water was up above or knees. By this point other
people have started to arrive and help too. With everyone’s help we were able
to get the kids to safety which was in someone else’s car out of the rain. Then
we all pushed his car out of the water and on to the other side. There was no
way it was going to start. I'm pretty sure his engine was hydro locked. By the
time everything was over and done with Allen and I were soaked all the way
through and it was time for our dinner appointment. We were far away from our
apartment so we didn't have time to change. We figured we would change
after dinner because we had to drive by the apt after dinner.
I think a day or two after all the rain we
were on our way to an appointment we had set up with an investigator that we
have been trying to see for a long time. We were excited to finally be able to
see her. On the way there I needed to use the restroom so we stopped by a gas
station. When I came out Sister Allen was talking to an older man. When she saw
I was behind her she turned to me and said to him "Maybe she can help you"
and then left to use the restroom herself. So I was stuck there with this old
man who was actually really weird. Come to find out he has just gotten up and
left his home in Orem Utah and drove all the way down to New Mexico. He thought
it would be a better life for him down here and it just felt
"special" to him. He had just pulled up to the gas station when he
saw us walking in. He said we were an answer to his prayer because he didn't
know anything about the area and he needed a job, a place to stay ect.... and
he thought we could help him. While Sister Allen was making phone calls
so see if she could find anyone that could help. He was still telling me his
life story and his philosophy on life and how he had been a member of the
church his whole life, he even showed he is temple recommend and how his
wife cheated on him and how now he is interested in his neighbor in Orem and
how he thinks all women are like diamonds. He told me so much about himself I
think I could have written a biography on him. I was super grateful when Allen
finally got a hold of someone that told us what to do. We found him a number in
the white pages for the transit bishop. By the time we had a prayer with him and
got him all settled with all the information he needed we were an hour and a
half late to our appointment with the investigator. Sadly, she wasn't there
when we arrived. That night I guess Heavenly Father had other plans for us and
we needed to help this guy more.
Earlier in the week we went back to some
apartments that we keep on knocking on because we felt there was someone there
that we needed to find. We have knocked them so often that we have given the
English elders 6 referrals which is a lot. This time when we knocked on an
apartment we had already knocked before we found Michelle. It was her 20th
birthday when we found her. We sung happy Birthday to her too:) We asked
if we could share a message with her, she agreed. We ended up teaching all of
lesson 1 with her and she accepted a baptismal date for Oct 6th. She is AMAZING
and is super ready for the gospel. It was a blessing finding her. We are seeing
her today as well:)
The Spanish branches in the area had a
combined family dance. It was out of our zone but we got permission to go
because we had invited a ton of people. None of them showed. It was a bummer, but
someone from one of the other Branches had invited a person that they had met
at a yard sale and they came and it happened they live in our area!! We stuck
up a conversation and introduced them to other members of the
branch. They were having a great time. We are hoping to start teaching
them soon.
